Rewind by Simon Kewin

Dr Tan hesitated, his finger on the button.

The device hummed. He didn’t doubt it would function. Oh, they’d scoffed when he claimed to have invented a time-machine. Strictly speaking, it was a time rewind machine. Backwards only; that was how the physics worked. He just hadn’t got the power he’d wanted. His calculations said ten years was possible, but he’d only got seconds.

No escaping his diagnosis, though. He was out of time. Imminent death altered your priorities. This was all he had.

He pressed. An explosion of light engulfed him…
